our story
Juan and Ruth started Habitat Holistic Systems in 2024 because Dane County homeowners kept asking the same question: who can I trust to tell me what my house actually needs, without trying to sell me the fix?
We're BPI Certified Building Analysts and a Focus on Energy Trade Ally. We don't carry a product line. We don't subcontract installations. Our entire business is observing, testing, measuring, and writing down what we found — then advising you on what to do about it.
The practice covers building science, water stewardship, and ecological landscape design under one roof because in a southern Wisconsin yard the roof, the soil, and the rain are the same system — and pretending otherwise leads to bad advice.

One shared standard of care.
When you hire Habitat Holistic Systems, Juan or Ruth is the person on your property, running the instruments, and writing your report. There is no junior staff and no handoff — there are two of us, and that is by design.
Juan
Engineer & Co-Founder
Juan is the engineer of the practice and a BPI Certified Building Analyst. He runs the blower door, the infrared camera, and the combustion safety testing on every audit, and he is the author of the technical sections of your report.
Ruth
Sustainability Specialist & Co-Founder
Ruth leads water stewardship and purposeful-landscape work. She walks sites after real rain events, draws planting plans tuned to Dane County soils, and is the one who will gently talk you out of the wrong species for your slope. She has yet to meet a rain garden she didn't want to make bigger.
